Our Director

Director Search!

Blue Mountain Chorus, the local chapter of Sweet Adelines International, is searching for a director.  Our chorus has been a fixture in the community for 45 years, and is comprised of loyal, experienced and enthusiastic women and newer members.  Our music is 4-part a cappella in the barbershop style.  Candidates for director should have a strong background in music and a love of harmony and be eager to lead us into the coming decade.  Our goal is to attract new members to this fun group of women while improving our skills so that we may continue to bring the joy of harmony to audiences within our community and compete successfully at our regional convention.  Sweet Adelines, and specifically our Region 13,  provides endless opportunities to leaders and members to learn and to improve our craft.

Candidates are welcome to attend one of our Thursday evening rehearsals.  Please text Chessa Hickox, Assistant Director (509.795.0990) or  Marilyn Johnson, Chorus Team Leader (509.386.6508) for details.

Meet our Interim Director!

Serena Travis

Serena Travis started singing in choir in grammar school and sang her first solo in the 5th grade. She credits her family for raising her in a world filled with music. She has sung in various choruses and joined the Blue Mountain Chorus as a guest in 2019. Seeing the need for a director and having had previous experience directing a band, Serena stepped into the role of interim director for the Blue Mountain Chorus. During COVID-19, she has been hosting virtual rehearsals and the chorus is currently welcoming new members. Those interested in joining the chorus as a guest or member can email her for more information.

Assistant Director

Chessa Hickox

Chessa Hickox, our Baritone Section Leader, became our Assistant Director under the former directorship of Vanessa Leamy. We’re thrilled she has continued in this position during recent changes within the chorus. Chessa’s energy and joy is contagious as she leads us in our vocal warm-ups or whatever role she takes on! She has begun studying portions of the Director Certification Program through Sweet Adelines International….
